Biochar and Carbon

Climate ActionSustainable LivelihoodsCommunity LedTechnology Enabled

Biomass and residue turned into stable carbon and soil health, and the carbon projects and monitoring built on top. Biochar carbon is a removal, not an avoidance: carbon held as biochar stays locked in soil for more than a hundred years.

Delivered Completed work

6 clusters across 4 states
  • Pre-feasibility completed for a replicable 3 tonne per day biochar unit, expandable to 15 tonnes, across four tribal districts.
  • A biochar carbon removal project in Nagaland, with a project design document prepared to an international biochar methodology.

Under way Work in progress

  • Six integrated biochar, biofertiliser and essential oil clusters under setup across Assam, Nagaland, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
  • The Living Soil Initiative in Panna and Satna, converting removed invasive biomass into biochar and biochar based biofertiliser.
  • Biochar based biofertiliser produced under a patented circular manufacturing system.
  • A digital record chain live across five farmer producer companies, running from farm gate through production to buyer.

One sourcing rule holds everywhere: no forest tree is cut for feedstock. Permitted material is cultivated bamboo, invasive species biomass, sawmill and wood processing waste, and agricultural and agroforestry residue.

Technology: Digital MRV, batch production records, biomass tracking, carbon accounting, geo tagged soil application records and impact dashboards.
