What happens when local resources, farmer-led action, and the right technology come together? At Jirjar, West Karbi Anglong, that question is taking shape through a new partnership focused on building stronger and more sustainable opportunities for the farming community.
A comprehensive general body meeting was held with the Board of Directors of Jirjar Farmer Producer Company Limited to introduce an integrated agricultural facility featuring biochar, biofertilizer, and essential oil processing units.
The proposed facility is designed around a simple but powerful idea: make better use of what the community already has. Local biomass and aromatic crops can be transformed into valuable products, from essential oils with market potential to biochar and biofertilizers that can help restore soil health and support more productive farming.
During the meeting, the operational framework of the facility was presented to the Board, highlighting how the different units can work together to reduce waste, improve resource efficiency, and create a more circular agricultural system. Instead of treating agricultural by-products as waste, the model aims to turn them into new inputs and new economic opportunities.
The discussions marked an important step forward for Jirjar. Building on a shared vision for stronger farmer institutions and local enterprise development, SLRD and Jirjar Farmer Producer Company Limited formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The partnership will focus on strengthening market linkages, technical handholding, and essential infrastructure, helping create an ecosystem where farmers can participate not only in production, but also in value addition and emerging rural enterprises.
For the farming community of West Karbi Anglong, the initiative represents more than a new processing facility. It is a step towards turning local resources into local value, strengthening livelihoods, and building a more resilient circular agricultural economy—together.
