SLRD Field Intervention
Madhya Pradesh
Degraded land restoration, tribal livelihood development, agroforestry, aromatic herbs, biochar, composting, soil carbon and community enterprises.
SLRD’s work in Madhya Pradesh focuses on degraded land restoration, tribal livelihood development, agroforestry, aromatic herbs cultivation, biochar, composting, soil carbon enhancement and community based enterprise models.
The interventions are being developed around areas such as Panna, Ajaigarh and Jhinna, where there is strong potential to connect natural resource restoration with local livelihood improvement.
The Madhya Pradesh model focuses on transforming invasive biomass, underutilised biomass, degraded lands and low productivity areas into productive climate and livelihood assets.
Agroforestry and Degraded Land Restoration
Agroforestry models are promoted to restore degraded land, improve biomass availability, increase carbon sequestration and create long term income opportunities.
Invasive Biomass to Soil Carbon Transformation
Invasive and underutilised biomass can be converted into biochar and compost based soil amendments. This helps manage unwanted biomass while improving soil fertility and carbon storage.
Biochar and Compost Based Soil Regeneration
Biochar and compost are promoted to improve soil structure, water retention, fertility and productivity. These inputs also help reduce chemical fertiliser dependency.
Aromatic Herbs Cultivation
Aromatic herbs cultivation can be introduced in suitable areas of Madhya Pradesh as part of regenerative agriculture, degraded land restoration and farmer income enhancement. Crops such as lemongrass, citronella, vetiver, palmarosa, tulsi and other locally suitable aromatic species can help diversify income and support essential oil based rural enterprises.
Tribal Livelihood Development
SLRD supports tribal communities through agriculture linked enterprises, agroforestry, aromatic herbs cultivation, nursery development, biomass based livelihoods, composting, biochar production and value addition.
Essential Oil and Value Addition Enterprises
Aromatic herbs cultivated by farmers and community groups can be processed through essential oil distillation units. These enterprises can create local employment and improve farm level returns.
Rural Enterprise Development
SLRD promotes rural enterprises linked with aromatic herbs, essential oils, biochar, compost, agroforestry, nurseries, value addition and local service delivery.
Watershed and Water Conservation
Water conservation, soil moisture management and watershed development are integrated into the Madhya Pradesh model to improve climate resilience.
Community Carbon Projects
The Madhya Pradesh interventions have strong carbon project potential through biochar, agroforestry, aromatic herbs cultivation, degraded land restoration and regenerative agriculture.
